How can I get Windows 8.1 to recognize the onboard sound/audio? I downloaded Belarc Adviser to figure out exactly which motherboard I had and went to the Compaq website and they had drivers for just about every OS except for windows 8.Ĭan I download the Windows 7 drivers and use them? Or is there another work around so that I can use the onboard sound device rather than getting a new HDMI monitor with sound?Īnd downloading two different windows 7 drivers. I've made sure the onboard sound is enabled in the bios, but the only sound driver appears to be an HDMI audio driver, which I think is coming from my video card (Because it's the only thing with an HDMI port) but my monitor and video card are not hooked up through HDMI and my monitor is not HDMI ready. The little sound icon at the bottom of the screen says no speakers or headphones detected. Everything runs great and we're learning how to use windows 8.1, with one exception. I think it's a 7200.Īnyway, it's an older computer I got for my children. I went to a surplus store and got a good deal on an HP Compaq computer.
